With the Innopack Kisters Wrap-around ShrinkPaperPacker Advanced (Innopack Kisters WSPP A) designed by KHS, you can use any packaging imaginable, such as wrap-around cartons, trays, liners, paper, film, etc. This new packaging system offers a high degree of flexibility to meet almost all secondary packaging requirements required by customers and the market. In addition, the existing Premium Series Innopack Kisters machines can be upgraded to Innopack Kisters WSPP A.
At the beginning of 2020, KHS Kisters first introduced equipment for packaging metal cans for beverages using paper. But in fact, 20 years ago, KHS Kisters has experimented with paper packaging. This secondary packaging design form is retro and may become a trend in the future.
Despite this, many potential customers do not intend to make the complete transition. Most of these customers see paper packaging as an additional new option that can be used to package a wide variety of products.

This design also allows the Innopack Kisters WSP (complete film wrap system) or Innopack Kisters WPP (full wrap system) to be retrofitted to Innopack Kisters WSPP A. This ensures production flexibility and thus can be tailored to customer or market requirements.
From a technological standpoint, the previous film packaging module had to be adapted to use the new paper packaging function. A recent paper folding and gluing module had to be designed. Therefore, the unit previously used to unfold and cut shrink film needed to be retrofitted with a paper and film attachment unit. At the same time, this section of the machine is also the location where the hot melt glue is applied from below and the tensioning of the paper. This function is suspended when handling shrink wrap.
In the new folding module, the folding tool precisely folds the paper and holds it upright around each side of the package. A separate KHS InnoHotMelt applicator with a needle valve ensures flawless gluing. As an option, an automatic glue feeding system is also available for uninterrupted production. In the set-up unit of the module, the glued flanks are first pressed onto the package and then fixed by the foam-coated tape.
The shrink channel can be configured individually and with low energy consumption. The shrink channel can be equipped with a gas heating system, which reduces energy costs by 50% and CO2 emissions by 60%. Suppose paper packaging is used instead of film packaging. In that case, the machine uses the closed shrink tunnel to transfer the processed packaging. Suppose paper packaging is used entirely instead of film packaging. In that case, the shrink tunnel can be wholly removed, thus effectively reducing the design size of the packaging machine.
Simple operation and high energy efficiency
The annual savings in electricity costs show that paper packaging is very energy efficient compared to film packaging. Based on two shifts, 300 days a year, the shrink tunnel consumes 72 kWh of electricity, resulting in an annual saving of 30,000 euros. Retrofitting the Innopack Kisters WSP is not complicated; simply replacing the existing packaging module with a deeply developed packaging module with new functions and installing a paper folding and gluing module.
